I Am as Unique as I Am by Marsen Riram

What does it mean to be perfect? Society has ingrained in us countless definitions of perfection, often shaping our aspirations and self-perception. But have you ever paused to question: What is perfection to you? The answer may surprise you, as it likely stems from the environment we inhabit—be it family, society, community, or the people we admire most. Yet, true perfection is not a destination but a journey, an evolving process defined by individuality. Let’s explore why perfection is subjective and why embracing your uniqueness is the most authentic path to personal fulfillment.

Understanding Perfection

The very idea of perfection is often dictated by external factors. Perfection is commonly described as a flawless state where everything is exactly right—free from faults or flaws, with everything being 100% ideal. But who decides what is "exactly right"? Who defines "fault" or "flaw"? The answer lies in the societal constructs we unconsciously absorb.

In reality, the concept of perfection is unattainable. Life is not about reaching a flawless state but about enjoying the process of growth and self-improvement. You can learn from others—both their successes and their failures. However, what truly matters are the sacrifices, decisions, and actions behind those outcomes.

The Illusion of Perfect Decisions

Decisions are neither inherently good nor bad; our mindset shapes their impact. Consider a simple example: Imagine you have two ice cream flavors to choose from—A and B—neither of which you’ve tasted before. You decide to try flavor A, but your mind might still wonder if B would have been better. This natural tendency applies to life’s bigger decisions too.

The key takeaway? Perfect decisions don’t exist. What matters is how you make them work. It’s your perspective and effort that turn any decision into a meaningful one.

Embracing Your Uniqueness

When I say, I am unique, it isn’t just about me. Every individual is unique, unlike anyone else in the world. From the moment you were born, you were a distinct individual—different from your parents, siblings, or anyone else. While you may share certain physical traits or habits with family members, your essence, thoughts, and individuality are entirely your own.

Even twins, despite their similarities, are fundamentally different individuals. This uniqueness is your strength and a reminder that you don’t need to conform to anyone else’s definition of perfection.

Defining Your Own Perfection

The purpose of discussing these points is simple: you don’t need to strive for someone else’s idea of perfection. You are free to define perfection on your own terms. Focus on being the best version of yourself. Pursue what feels right to you, even if others may try to bring you down. No matter how good you are, you will always be the "bad" version in someone’s story. That’s just life.

Perfection is not about achieving a flawless state but about embracing who you truly are. You are a unique individual, incomparable and irreplaceable. Instead of measuring yourself against others’ standards, define perfection for yourself. Grow, evolve, and become the best version of you. Remember, the journey to self-improvement is not about becoming someone else—it’s about becoming authentically you. Let your uniqueness shine, for there will never be another you.
