“The Parallel Universe of Us”

There was a couple, the cutest pair ever.

—loving each other to the moon and the sun, from dusk till dawn. One day, the boy planned to surprise his girl by taking her to her favourite place. Unfortunately, the most beautiful day turned into a tragedy.

On the way, they encountered an accident. A truck with failed brakes hit them. The boy was seriously injured, but the girl, sadly, lost her life. The happiest day of their lives became the worst nightmare.

Years passed. On every birthday, the boy visited the girl’s grave. He never forgot the memories he had with her, and he never moved on. In the same way, the girl’s soul also could not move on. She lingered somewhere between heaven and earth, between life and death, between her soul and body. She had always loved the boy in life, and she continued to love him even in death. Whenever he came to her grave, she cherished those moments.

The girl could see him, but the boy had no idea but he always believed that his girl is near to his heart. This went on and time passed on…in a blink it was fifth anniversary. Both were unable to move on—they were trapped in the same situation, but living in different universes.

After five years, on the sixth birthday as well as the girl’s death anniversary, the boy came to visit her grave once again. But this time, he was not alone. A new visitor stood beside him. With trembling hands, he laid the flowers and bouquet upon her grave, his tears falling silently—each drop carrying the weight of a love that could never return.

Seeing this, the girl soul whispered, “Baby, why are you crying? I am always here with you, and I love those flowers.” But the boy could not hear her. She smiled faintly and said again, “Come on, stop it already. It’s my birthday. Cheer up a bit and wish me.”

Then, the new visitor appeared. It was a beautiful young woman who had come with him. The boy turned to her and said, “Darling, there’s something I’d like to tell you.”

The girl’s soul was in shock.

The boy continued, “I’m going to start a new life. And this is the one I wanted to introduce to you first.”

The girl’s spirit cried softly, whispering, “You still have such a good choice, my love. She’s beautiful. You must let go of your stubborn habits and treat her well.”

The boy then said, “From now on, I won’t come here anymore. I will always cherish our memories, and I will love you forever.”

The girl replied, “Yes, you should have done this long ago. Start anew, and know that I will always love you, baby. I loved you then, and I will love you forever. Even though you couldn’t hear me or see me, I waited for you. But waiting has kept me from moving on… it’s time now for both of us to let go”

As the boy and the new girl walked away from the grave, the girl’s spirit looked at them one last time. Tears filled her eyes as she whispered, “You two look so well matched. Goodbye… it’s time for me to leave too. I love you.”

And with that, the girl’s soul finally disappeared. After leaving the graveyard, the boy turned to his friend and said, “Thank you for playing along.”

The girl replied, “No need to thank me, bro. But can you tell me… why did you do this?”

The boy fell silent, his mind flashing back to a dream where he had encountered an unknown creature that told him: “Let her go. She has lingered in this mortal world for too long.”

Finally, the boy said quietly, “She can’t remain attached to this world any longer. I’ll hold onto the memories myself. I love her… and I always will.”
