Contribution of Tribal Female Freedom Fighter in Building of Contemporary INDIA

The story of India’s freedom struggle is one of resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to justice and equality. While the contributions of many prominent leaders are well-documented, the role of tribal female freedom fighters often remains overlooked. These women, hailing from diverse tribal communities across the nation, played a pivotal role in resisting colonial oppression and sowing the seeds of a progressive India.

Our Capstone Project, titled "Contribution of Tribal Female Freedom Fighters in Building Contemporary India," seeks to explore and illuminate the remarkable efforts of these unsung heroes. This research examines their lives, struggles, and enduring legacies, highlighting their significant impact on the socio-political fabric of contemporary India.

The research for this project was conducted through the dedicated efforts of:

  • Marsen Riram, who focused on the contributions of tribal women from the northeastern region of India, with particular emphasis on their role in grassroots resistance movements and the preservation of cultural identity during the colonial period.
  • Siena Janjua, who studied the contributions of tribal women in central and western India, analyzing their leadership in uprisings such as the Santhal rebellion and other tribal resistances that challenged British authority.
  • Megha Anna Manoj, who explored the contributions of tribal women from southern India, shedding light on their involvement in anti-colonial movements and their efforts in empowering their communities post-independence.

Together, our team has endeavored to provide a holistic and regionally inclusive account of the tribal female freedom fighters’ contributions to India’s independence and its subsequent growth as a contemporary nation.

This endeavor would not have been possible without the invaluable support and guidance of our mentor, Dr. Ganesh Digal, and the collective efforts of our institution, faculty, colleagues, and loved ones. Their encouragement has been instrumental in enabling us to bring this project to fruition.

As we present our findings, we invite readers to join us in celebrating the legacy of these tribal female freedom fighters and to recognize their role in the making of a free and inclusive India.
